Getting started with Slidemora

Use this checklist to prepare for your first scans. Follow the printed manual supplied with your scanner for exact controls, card preparation and connection instructions.

Before you start

Check that your film is standard 35mm mounted slides or 35mm negative strips.
Have a compatible SD/SDHC card up to 32 GB ready. It is required and is not included.
Choose a clean, dry, stable surface and connect the supplied power adapter as directed in the manual.
Have a compatible SD card reader ready if your computer or phone needs one. Check its connector and operating-system support before buying.

1. Prepare a small batch

Keep slides in order and note names, dates or locations written on the mounts. Handle film by its edges. Follow the manual for removing loose dust; do not use household cleaning liquids. For mould, stuck film or fragile originals, seek specialist conservation advice.

2. Load the matching holder

Use the slide holder for mounted slides and the negative holder for strips. Align the film without bending it. Insert the holder into the side opening and position one frame. Never force a holder or mount that does not fit.

3. Preview and save

Select the appropriate film mode and check the on-screen preview. Use the scan/save controls described in the printed manual. Confirm the image has saved before advancing to the next frame. Scanning is manual, one frame at a time.

4. Transfer the files

After saving, switch off the scanner before removing the SD card. Insert the card into a compatible computer slot or card reader. Use your computer’s file manager or your phone’s supported import app to copy the JPEG files. Reader and app steps vary by device. The scanner does not send files wirelessly.

5. Organise and back up

Create folders by year, event or family member. Add names while someone remembers them. Keep at least one additional copy on a separate device or suitable backup service, and keep the original film.

If something does not work

Film will not fit: stop and check the format and holder. Do not force it.
Images will not save: check the card type, capacity, free space and write-protect switch. Follow the manual before formatting; formatting deletes existing files.
Phone does not recognise the card: check the reader’s supported devices, connector and import instructions.
Dust or poor detail: check the original film and handling. The scanner does not repair fading, scratches or mould.
